ComiXology’s Submit Self-Publishing Platform For Independent Comics Creators Poised To Transform The Comic Book Industry

Posted on March 6th, 2013 - 11:25 AM by

For Immediate Release:

COMIXOLOGY’S SUBMIT SELF-PUBLISHING PLATFORM FOR INDEPENDENT COMICS CREATORS
POISED TO TRANSFORM THE COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY

Turnkey marketing and sales channel for independent comic book and graphic novel
creators; works by Shannon Wheeler, Becky Cloonan, and Jake Parker and other top creators available today

New York, NY, March 6, 2013 – Starting now, independent comic book and graphic novel creators can build a worldwide following and profit from their work. Through a portal called comiXology Submit, from comiXology, the revolutionary digital comics platform, independent creators simply need to upload their comic book and graphic novels for approval at no cost. ComiXology does the rest, from transforming the work with comiXology’s Guided View™ reading technology, to making it available on comiXology’s buy once, read anywhere digital comics platform, which includes an iTunes top 10-grossing iPad app, iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire and Windows 8 apps, and a web store and reader at www.comixology.com.  Creators and comiXology equally split all profits, with creators maintaining full ownership of their work.

ComiXology Submit enables independent comics creators, from promising new talent to established veterans, to reach a global audience of comic book fans for whom comiXology already created the first viable digital marketplace for leading publishers. At the same time, comiXology Submit bolsters comiXology’s commitment to bringing its customers the best and most diverse content available.

Independent creators’ works will be transformed into Guided View™ , comiXology’s groundbreaking technology that turns reading comics into an immersive, cinematic experience. Works from Shannon Wheeler (“Too Much Coffee Man” cartoons), Jake Parker (“The Antler Boy and Other Stories”), Becky Cloonan (“Wolves,” ”The Mire”), Richard Stevens (“Diesel Sweeties”) and other top independent creators are available today, with many more to follow now that the platform is open.

“While we continue to push ourselves to innovate the digital comic experience, comiXology Submit provides an incredible opportunity for creators to sell their work to a highly targeted and global audience of comic book and graphic novel fans,” said David Steinberger, comiXology co-founder and CEO. “The next generation of creators will reap great benefit alongside more well known creators selling books that are no longer available in print.”

“This is also about making sure we always have the best, most diverse content available, the best reading and buying experience, and at the same time, supporting comic book creators around the globe,” said John D. Roberts, comiXology co-founder.

“ComiXology Submit opens it up for independent comic books artists, creating the chance to digitally publish comics that one can sell everywhere,” said Shannon Wheeler, creator of the critically hailed “Too Much Coffee Man” series and a contributing cartoonist to The New Yorker.  “When I created ‘Too Much Coffee Man’ 20 years ago in Austin, I spent many late nights making the stupid comics. Then I spent long days bugging shop owners to sell my stuff. Then I spent minutes losing the invoices, ensuring I never got paid. With comiXology Submit, I could have spent all that time creating my comics and I’d have gotten paid twice as often too.”

More details about comiXology Submit will be unveiled on Saturday at 5:45 PM CST at SXSW Interactive, as comiXology co-founder and CEO Steinberger takes the stage with fellow co-founder Roberts and Wheeler on the SXSW GEEK Stage at the Palmer Auditorium in Austin, TX.

Creators interested in submitting works for approval can visit http://submit.comixology.com. Comic book fans interested in finding works by independent creators now available on comiXology are invited to visit http://www.comixology.com/submit.

Without the tools that comiXology’s Guided View provides, it would not have been possible,” said Atomic Robo creators Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener. ” We can’t wait to hear the reaction from the Emerald City Comicon debut. Roberts. “It’s been gratifying to see creators taking advantage of comiXology’s Guided View reading technology to tell their stories over the last several years – and it’s especially rewarding to work with Brian and Scott of the Atomic Robo team to really push forward what the digital comics experience can be.”

Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener’s Atomic Robo comic series from Red 5 exploded on to the comic scene in October of 2007. Garnering numerous Eisner Award nominations over the years since its debut, the Atomic Robo series follows the adventures of an automated intelligence machine named, what else, Atomic Robo, as he rids the world of evil and has fun while doing it!

ComiXology will be presenting at Emerald City Comicon ’13 at booth #2101 while Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener of the Atomic Robo creative team will be at G-04.

ComiXology was most recently in the news this past January with the formation of “comiXology Europe”, a division of the company to be headquartered in Paris, France that will be spearheading the acquisition of international language content across the European continent. This news was followed shortly by the announcement of a distribution agreement with leading French publisher Delcourt Publishing Group.

Previously in December Apple revealed that comiXology’s iPad app ranked #3 in Apple’s 2012 Top Ten Grossing list, and was the only app to make the Top Ten list for 2 years consecutively. For Immediate Release:

Comixology Begins International Push With Opening Of
ComiXology Europe

Office to Open in Paris

ComiXology to exhibit at this weeks’ Angoulême International Comics Festival

Janurary 28th, 2013 – Paris, France / New York, NY – Today comiXology, the revolutionary digital comics platform that recently surpassed 100 million downloads of comic books and graphic novels worldwide, announced the formation of  “comiXology Europe”, a division of the company that will be spearheading the acquisition of international language content across the European continent. ComiXology Europe will be headquartered in Paris, France.

With its English language catalog content, comiXology charts as iTunes’ top grossing book app in France and several other European countries including Germany, Italy, and Spain as well as the U.K.  The company plans to offer local European language content to build upon its existing international business, which is already a significant driver of revenue for the company.

ComiXology’s opening of an office in Paris as its headquarters for European expansion is no surprise, as France has one of the most vibrant markets for graphic novels – called bande dessinées in French – in the world, with an industry that is comparable in size to the U.S. market.

“ComiXology has already proven to be enormously popular with consumers in many countries around the world – and that’s just in English,” said comiXology co-founder and CEO David Steinberger. “With comiXology Europe, comiXology takes the first step in becoming the platform for multi-language graphic literature from all over the world.”

The staff of comiXology Europe will be present alongside a U.S. contingent at this week’s Angoulême International Comics Festival at booth RL 7.

ComiXology was recently in the news when Apple revealed that comiXology’s iPad app ranked #3 in Apple’s Top Ten Grossing list, and was the only app to make the Top Ten list for 2 years consecutively. In October of 2012, comiXology crested 100 million comic and graphic novel downloads with more than 50 million of those happening in 2012 alone – continuing a trajectory of record-shattering growth.

With over 30,000 comics and graphic novels from more than 75 publishers, comiXology offers the widest selection of English language digital comics in the world. ComiXology’s availability across the iPhoneiPadAndroidKindle FireWindows 8 and the Web makes it the best digital platform for newly interested, current and lapsed comic and graphic novel fans worldwide.

European publishers interested in distributing content through comiXology can contact comiXology’s business development team at business@comixology.com.

Pour Diffusion Immédiate:

ComiXology Lance Son Offensive Internationale En Ouvrant
ComiXology Europe

For Immediate Release:

ARCHAIA, ISHINOMORI PRODUCTION INC., & COMIXOLOGY
TEAM UP TO DELIVER THE FIRST ‘TRULY DIGITAL’ VARIANT
COMIC BOOK COVER
WITH ‘CYBORG 009: CHAPTER 000’

‘Cyborg 009: Chapter 000’ special cover and comic created in honor of
legendary manga creator Shotaro Ishinomori’s 75th birthday

New York, NY (Jan. 23, 2013) – Award-winning graphic novel publisher Archaia Entertainment has teamed up with Ishinomori Production Inc. and comiXology—the revolutionary digital comics platform boasting iTunes’ #3 top grossing iPad app of 2012—to deliver the first “truly digital” variant comic book cover! Created specifically for comiXology’s Guided View reading technology, the cover to Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 celebrates the 75th birthday of legendary manga creator Shotaro Ishinomori, known the world over for creating Go Rangers (the precursor to Power Rangers), Cyborg 009, Kamen Rider (a.k.a. Masked Rider), Kikaider, and Skull Man.

“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the innovative work of manga legend Shotaro Ishinomori than debuting the groundbreaking ‘truly digital’ variant of Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 by Archaia,” said co-founder of comiXology John D. Roberts. “We knew that comiXology’s Guided View would play a big role in the evolution of comics storytelling but this ‘truly digital’ variant is an exciting leap into a whole new direction. Here’s to the first of many!”

“After changing the way people think about printed books the past few years, one of our missions at Archaia for 2013 is to change the way people think about digital storytelling,” said Archaia Editor-in-Chief Stephen Christy. “What we’ve produced with comiXology for Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 is almost a digital ‘flip book’ cover for the 21st century, with Marcus To and Ian Herring brilliantly bringing to life a fight between Cyborg 009 and an unnamed agent of series villain, The Black Ghost. I can’t wait for comics fans around the world to see what Marcus and Ian have created.”

Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 previews Archaia’s full-length hardcover graphic novel, featuring a contemporary take on Ishinomori’s classic Cyborg 009 characters. It will debut at Comic-Con International in San Diego this July. Written by F.J. DeSanto (The Spirit, Insurgent) and Bradley Cramp (Gattaca), illustrated by Marcus To (Huntress, Red Robin), and colored by Eisner Award Nominee Ian Herring (Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand), Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 is available today exclusively across comiXology’s entire digital comics platform including the iPhoneiPadAndroidKindle Fire, Windows 8 and the Web

Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 features the first 17 pages of the forthcoming Cyborg 009 graphic novel from Archaia, as well as the first 61 pages of the original Cyborg 009 Volume 1 manga, which, along with other works by Ishinomori, are also available for purchase on comiXology.

Conceptualized and brought to life by Marcus To, Ian Herring, Eisner Award-nominated designer Jon Adams, Eisner Award-winning editor Stephen Christy, and comiXology co-founder John D. Roberts, the Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 cover is available exclusively through the comiXology digital comics platform.

The original Cyborg 009 manga has sold over 250,000,000 copies worldwide. A new animated movie adaptation produced by Production I.G was released this past October in Japan.
