Spotlight on MoCCA Fest 2012 Part 1!

This past weekend comic artists from around the world gathered from near and far to celebrate all things sequential art at the 10^th annual MoCCA Fest in New York City. This one of a kind creator centric convention was a benefit for the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art where the independent spirit of today’s top indie talent met to show off their latest work and toast the art form we all know and love.

In honor of the occasion comiXology is proud to spotlight the work of some of this year’s MoCCA guests by compiling a list of a few of the books available for download on the comics by comiXology platform. Check it out and keep an eye open for more to come soon:

Shannon Wheeler – Too Much Coffee Man: Shannon Wheeler’s titan of alt-comix returns in this digital edition of the classic #1 issue. P. Craig Russell – Sandman #50: P. Craig Russell lushly illustrates this stand-alone issue starring the king of a dazzling version of Baghdad as he encounters Morpheus and makes a deal to preserve his city’s regality. But at what cost?

Nicolas Mahler – Van Helsing’s Night Off: Austrian cartoonist Nicolas Mahler is famous for his silent and sophisticated comics. Perfect for fans of Edward Gorey, this volume includes humorous comics stories featuring the classic archetypes of the mummy, vampire, wolfman, Frankenstein, and, of course, Van Helsing. These short stories are intriguing, humorous and incredibly illustrated in a whimsical, yet weighted, sketchy style. This first American compilation will be sure to create an instant fan base for Nicolas’ work.

Joseph Remnant Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland: 129 pages! A lifelong Cleveland resident, Harvey Pekar (1939-2010) pioneered autobiographical comics, mining the mundane for magic since 1976 in his ongoing American Splendor series. Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland is sadly one of his last, but happily one of his most definitive graphic novels. It combines classic American Splendor-ous autobiographical anecdotes with key moments and characters in the city’s history as relayed to us by Our Man and meticulously researched and rendered by artist Joseph Remnant. With an introduction by Alan Moore to boot!

Alex Robinson – Lower Regions: You tasted his Box Office Poison then got Tricked, so brace yourself for ALEX ROBINSON’S LOWER REGIONS! The award winning creator follows up his acclaimed graphic novels with a bold new direction: a pretty barbarian lady with an axe chopping her way through a dungeon filled with monsters!
